ABOUT

aims

BHBPA is a ‘not for profit’ organisation whose liabilities are limited by guarantee. The aims of the Association are to:

  • Attract and sustain members, primarily from the local business community, by offering services valued higher than the price of membership
  • Support members’ pursuit of common business interests and needs
  • Build a cohesive and positive business community, for the benefit of members
  • Contribute positively to the wider local community
  • Lobby and influence governmental policy makers to sustain and enhance Burgess Hill as a business-friendly location
  • Forge an effective conduit between the Association and Local Authorities so as to inform and engage members and contribute towards positive outcomes from the policies and initiatives of local and national authorities.

And by local we mean within approximately a 5 miles radius of Burgess Hill town centre and includes the full length of the A2300.

Organisation

The Association is constituted as a company limited by guarantee. This means we are a members-based organisation and it is our registered members who are liable for the Association debts – albeit each member’s liability is limited to £1.

Suffice to say the Association’s finances are maintained in a good and healthy order.

The diagram below encapsulates our governance framework as defined by the Constitution.

In addition to General Meetings we have two standing bodies: the Board and the Steering Committee. In addition, ad hoc Project Boards are created as needed.

the board

The Board defines policy and commissions any significant projects the Association decides to undertake.

It comprises three Executive Officer (EO) roles and three other directors. The Marketing Officer is an advisory role to the Board.

The Steering Committee has two functions. Firstly, devising and maintaining the Association’s business strategy. And secondly, being a representative ‘sounding board’ and ‘voice of the Membership’ between general meetings.

The current Steering Committee comprises seven representative members plus the Executive Officers.

Burgess Hill Business Parks Association (BHBPA) – Statement of Purpose

  • Collaborative
  • Supportive
  • Informative
  • Enabling
  • Consultative

We exist to champion our members’ needs and interests and promote business in the Mid-Sussex area.

We welcome members from all industries and sectors, accommodating start-ups to SMEs to multi-nationals.

Using our very close liaison with the local town, district and county councils and our MP, we promote interests and lobby for support and improvement across a wide range of topics.

Among our members we promote collective focus to achieve common goals and share best practice. We aim for Burgess Hill and its business parks to become known as a centre of excellence for a sustainable future, with our members and their staff proud to be located in Burgess Hill. We are committed to embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) considerations in all aspects of our work, including policy development and employment practices.

We are also community focussed. Many of the staff that work in our members’ factories, warehouses and offices live locally; we help our members fulfil ESG (Environment and Social Governance) goals, giving back to that local community.

Above all, we enable our members to come together as a friendly and mutually supportive group of businesses, sharing many common goals and celebrating one another’s achievements.

About BHBPA

Present members include manufacturing, services, public and charitable organisations, ranging from training and finance to technology and pharmaceutical. Many are long-established in the local community.

We are currently engaging with the significant expansion of the Burgess Hill area (both domestic and commercial), full fibre roll-out, road conditions and parking issues, together with EV charging initiatives. In our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion we shall be setting EDI best practices for our members to adopt.

We are community-minded, primarily in our out-reach to schools and colleges with work placements and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities, providing relevant insights into our world of business.

We are a friendly group and this is reflected in our regular networking events. These gatherings attract a very wide range of members, all interested in developing and nurturing worthwhile business friendships and furthering the goals of the association.
