Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity helps pre-school children across the South East who have cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments. Children with cerebral palsy often struggle to learn fundamental skills and face extra challenges because of their disabilities. They are often excluded from everyday activities in their communities, limiting the opportunities for socialisation with children of their own age. Many families have to wait a long time to receive a diagnosis which means their children miss out on the benefits of early intervention, such as the independence skills needed to attend school.
Our services include conductive education sessions, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, music therapy and family outreach home play sessions. All services focus on parents and children working together in a supportive environment to improve a child’s physical, social, and emotional skills. This support positively impacts the long-term well-being of the whole family, not simply the child. Our services are free and available all year round but we receive no statutory funding. Families travel from all over the South East to access our services.
